Back in Hamburg
Posted: 9th July 2010
I’m at home in Hamburg for the next two weeks which I’m pleased about having played three weeks on the trot. I’ve got lots of time to do some practising, see my friends and family and get lots of rest before the biggest two weeks of my year, The Evian Masters and The Ricoh Women’s British Open.
Last week I was in Tenerife playing in The Tenerife Ladies Open. I played well on the first day and shot one under par but the second day was completely different. I really struggled out there but I managed to finish birdie, eagle which meant I made the cut by a couple of shots. It was good to finish on a high as I didn’t play well at all that day. My finish gave me a good frame of mind for the weekend and I played much better. On the Saturday I shot three under par and I played much more consistently and was pretty pleased. My game was still in good shape on the Sunday and I shot two under par.
Overall I finished tied fourteenth which I was pleased with considering I was looking like missing the cut with two holes to play on the Friday. I have definitely learnt that making the cut is the most important thing to concentrate on for the first two days as there is always a chance of shooting low rounds at the weekend and climbing up the leaderboard which is exactly what I did in Tenerife. I’m pleased to have jumped one spot in the Henderson Money list to sixth.
For the weekend, I was able to have Krystle Caithness’ caddy Darren French on my bag again as Krystle had missed the cut. Darren has agreed to caddy for me in the Evian Masters which is great as I get on well with him and he has done well for me recently. For The Ricoh Women’s British Open, I have Pete Coleman caddying for me. A number of you may know Pete as he caddied for Bernard Langer for a number of years including both times he won The Masters. Pete has also caddied for Seve Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie and my stablemate Lee Westwood. I look forward to working with a caddy with so much experience. It’s not long now until The Open and I can’t wait to get back over to Royal Birkdale.
